To maintain the smooth and strong security arrangement of the vital establishments and of notified persons as at Centre and in other states and in view of orders of the Hon’ble High Court Allahabad, PIL no 2436 of 2019 (In Re Suo Moto) relating to Security and Protection in All court Campuses In the state of UP Vs Slate of UP), it has been decided to establish the Uttar Pradesh Special Security force in the state of UP.
A special security force (UPSSF) is formed for the purpose of protection and security of Any ‘Body’, any person, or any name, nominal or category notified by State Government, Hon’ble High Court Allahabad and Lucknow Bench, District Courts, any other Court notified by State Govt. important establishments, industrial under taking Places of worship, Administrative premises metro, airport Banks and other financial institutions and other financial institutions and any other institutions establishments notified by state Government.
The Government of Uttar Pradesh constituted the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) and created a total of 7,755 posts for its Headquarters and six battalions, namely: 1st Battalion Lucknow, 2nd Battalion Gorakhpur, 3rd Battalion Prayagraj, 4th Battalion Mathura, 5th Battalion Saharanpur, and 6th Battalion Ayodhya. The Headquarters of the Force is located in Lucknow and is presently functioning temporarily from the premises of the 32nd Battalion, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Lucknow.
At present, the Force is staffed by 01 Director General of Police, 01 Deputy Inspector General of Police, 05 Commandants, 06 Deputy Commandants, and 09 Assistant Commandants. In addition, 42 Male Inspectors, 378 Male Sub-Inspectors, 744 Male Head Constables, 4,006 Male Constables, 10 Female Inspectors, 38 Female Sub-Inspectors, 99 Female Head Constables, and 442 Female Constables are serving in the Force.
Furthermore, in the Ministerial Cadre, 01 Confidential Inspector, 04 Confidential Sub-Inspectors, 05 Sub-Inspectors (Clerical), 43 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (Clerical), 01 Inspector (Accounts), 02 Sub-Inspectors (Accounts), 22 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (Accounts), and 01 Quartermaster Inspector are presently posted and performing their duties.
As detailed below, the Commandants of the PAC have been assigned the additional charge of the respective battalions of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force:

Currently, the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) is effectively carrying out the responsibility of securing various sensitive establishments of state and national importance. In this regard, along with providing security for Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya, the responsibility for the security arrangements of the Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Noida Metro Rail services operating in Uttar Pradesh, as well as the RRTS (Meerut), has also been entrusted to the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force.
In addition, the UPSSF is successfully managing the security arrangements of the airports at Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Aligarh, Moradabad, Bareilly, Shravasti, Azamgarh, Ghaziabad (Hindon Airport), and Saharanpur (Sarsawa Airport).
The force also plays an important role in the security of judicial institutions. At present, the UPSSF is effectively discharging the responsibility of securing the district courts of Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, and Mathura.
Furthermore, the responsibility for the external security of the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat (Lok Bhavan), Lucknow, has also been assigned to the UPSSF, which is carrying out this duty with a high level of vigilance, efficiency, and professional competence.
As a distinctive identity of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force, its D.P.M. (Disruptive Pattern Material) uniform has been designated, reflecting the force’s unique operational methodology, discipline, and professional excellence.
With the motto “Security • Defense • Protection,” the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force remains continuously committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s important establishments, public infrastructure, and sensitive premises.
