To maintain the smooth and strong security arrangement of the vital establishments and of notified persons as at Centre and in other states and in view of orders of the Hon’ble High Court Allahabad, PIL no 2436 of 2019 (In Re Suo Moto) relating to Security and Protection in All court Campuses In the state of UP Vs Slate of UP), it has been decided to establish the Uttar Pradesh Special Security force in the state of UP.
A special security force (UPSSF) is formed for the purpose of protection and security of Any ‘Body’, any person, or any name, nominal or category notified by State Government, Hon’ble High Court Allahabad and Lucknow Bench, District Courts, any other Court notified by State Govt. important establishments, industrial under taking Places of worship, Administrative premises metro, airport Banks and other financial institutions and other financial institutions and any other institutions establishments notified by state Government.
Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force is established by “The UTTAR PRADESH SPECIAL SECURITY FORCE ACT 2020” to provide for the constitution and regulation of a specific trained police force of the state of Uttar Pradesh for protection and security of persons and installations where it is deployed and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. A total of 7755 posts have been created for the headquarters and 06 Battalions respectively, First Bn Lucknow, Second Bn Gorakhpur, Third Bn Prayagraj, Fourth Bn Mathura, Fifth Bn Saharanpur, Sixth Bn Ayodhya and Lucknow headquarters. UPSSF Headquarter at Lucknow, temporarily operating from the 32 Bn PAC Campus, Lucknow. Head of the Department is Additional Director General of Police. And 01 Commandant and 01 Deputy Commandant are appointed at Headquarters and others 21 Office personnel have been deployed.
Presently 01 Additional Director General of Police, 01 Commandant and 01 Deputy Commandant, 01 Assistant Commandant, 14 Inspector, 223 Sub-Inspector, 219 Head Constable, 3276 Constable and 04 Women Inspector, 16 Women Sub-Inspector, 08 Women Head Constable, 192 Women Constable and ministerial staff’s 02 C.A., 03 SI (M), 09 ASI(M) and 01 RI are posted in UPSSF

At present, the security of 03 operational Metro rails in UP i.e. Lucknow Metro, Noida Metro and Kanpur Metro is being done by the UP Special Security Force. The security of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Prayagraj, Bareilly and Ghaziabad airports is also being done by the UP Special Security Force. The responsibility of external security of UP Secretariat (Lok Bhavan) has also done by UP Special Security Force.
UPSSF is performing its duties in a specific determined Special Uniform (D.P.M).
